Vagh Baras known as Govatsa Dwadashi or Vasu Baras or Gau Dushyami. Govatsa Dwadashi is celebrated one day before Dhanteras.

Vasu Baras or Bagh Baras ( Vagh Baras ) or Govatsa Dwadashi is the twelfth the light of day of the Krishna Paksha of Ashwin calendar month which is dedicated to the cow and calves. On this day cows and calves are worshipped.

‘Vagh Baras’  or ‘Bagh Baras’ is one name as the changeless celebration inside Gujarat State. The rumor ‘Bagh’ refers to repaying one’s financial debts.

Lakshmi puja should be done during Pradosh Kaal which starts after sunset.

Dhanvantari Trayodashi is observed two days before Diwali Puja and Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha. The day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari, the teacher and the father of Ayurveda. Lord Dhanvantari is the physician of Gods and considered one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Dhanteras Puja Muhurat is not only done for goddess Lakshmi but also Kuber, who is the god of wealth.

The word ‘Dhanteras’ can be divided into two. In Hindi, the word ‘Dhan’ means wealth and the word ‘Tera’ means thirteen.

Kali means Dark (evil) and Chaudas – Fourteenth. Kali Chaudas is also known as Bhut Chaturdashi or Narak-Chaturdashi it is celebrated 14th day of Ashwin, Kali Chaudas is the day allotted to the worship of Maha-Kali or Shakti and is believed that on this day Kali killed the wicked Raktavija.

Kali Chaudas is also attached to the legend of Lord Hanuman.

The festival of lights Diwali is also one of the most significant festivals celebrated in India. On Diwali, Lakshmi Puja should be done during Pradosh Kaal which starts after sunset and approximately lasts for 2 hours and 24 minutes. Some sources propose Mahanishita Kaal also to perform Lakshmi Puja.

Diwali is a festival of Hindus, but especially of the Businessmen, On this day they do puja of Account books and start writing their new accounts. This is called as “Chopda Pujan” or “Sharda Pujan” or “Muharat Pujan” meaning puja of account books. Chopda pujan is a day for everyone not only to reconcile one’s financial books but also the spiritual books.

Most of the time Govardhan Puja day coincides with Gujarati New Year day, which is celebrated on Shukla Paksha Pratipada of Kartik month.

Govardhan Puja day falls next day after Diwali Puja and it is celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna defeated God Indra.

Gowardhan Puja is also known as Annakut Puja. On this day food made of cereals like wheat, rice, curry made of gram flour and leafy vegetables is cooked and offered to Lord Krishna.

In Maharashtra the same day is celebrated as Bali Pratipada or Bali Padva.

BHAI DOOJ – BHAI BEEJ – 21st October

On Bhaiya Dooj, sisters pray for their brothers to have long and happy lives by performing Tika ceremony and brothers offer gifts to their sisters. Bhaiya Dooj is also known as Bhau Beej and Bhathru Dwithiya.

Bhai Dooj is also known as Bhau Beej in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka, Bhai Tika in Nepal, Bhai Phota in Bengal, and Ningol Chakuba in Manipur. The names may differ but the essence of the festival remains the same.
